As the development of artificial intelligence ushers in a turning point, Meta Platforms Inc. (formerly Facebook) officially announced the restructuring of the company's artificial intelligence department and the establishment of a new organization , Meta Superintelligence Labs (MSL) , dedicated to the development of super intelligent systems with "global human capabilities". This move means that Meta will bet on the future of AI and actively participate in the global general artificial intelligence (AGI) competition.

Zuckerberg: Super smart "at your fingertips" and Meta must lead the trend

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg sent an internal letter to all employees on Monday (July 1), expressing the company's ambitions in the super smart field. He pointed out that as the progress of AI technology accelerates, it is no longer far to build a "super intelligence" with interdisciplinary and high-versatility cognitive capabilities.

“I believe this is the beginning of a new era of humanity and I am completely committed to making Meta lead the trend in this field.”

Zuckerberg also revealed that Meta will continue to invest "hundreds of billions" in AI R&D in the next few years to ensure it remains ahead in model capabilities, computing infrastructure and cutting-edge research.

Wang Tao serves as the person in charge and integrates multiple AI core teams

The new MSL division will be led by Alexandr Wang, founder and CEO of the former data-labeled unicorn company Scale AI . He posted on his personal social media that he confirmed his participation in Meta, saying: "Building super intelligence is the most important mission of our generation."

MSL will integrate Meta's existing large language model team, AI product team and FAIR (Fundamental AI Research), and set up a new laboratory that "focusses on next-generation models" to explore scalable, controllable and secure universal intelligent systems.

Industry competition is getting hot, Meta increases its investment in general intelligence

Meta's move is seen by the industry as a direct response to AI giants such as OpenAI, Google DeepMind, and Anthropic. Against the backdrop of super intelligence becoming a new strategic highland, large-scale capital investment and competition for top AI talents are becoming the norm in the industry.

Industry experts believe that the establishment of MSL may further promote global cooperation in AI governance, security mechanisms and cutting-edge research, and will also accelerate the pace of super intelligence moving towards application scenarios.
